If there is money enough to attract private contractors, who certainly expect to make a profit, there is a way to continue the present system of workers being employed by the school district, paid more than minimum wage and enjoying the benefits of insurance and pension. These jobs have always commanded respect and demanded responsibility and that, in my opinion,is important to a healthy city. I think the defeat of the WISD millage request was a disaster and those who voted against it should be offering alternatives other than privatization.
