More signs of city wildlife. As I stepped outside this morning I was assailed with the aroma of skunk, just as a perfect half chevron of about 10 geese flew over. Made me wonder what happened to the other half this morning?

We hear coyotes out here in the Wilderness of Scio quite a lot. They can be kind of terrifying sounding.

In Bird Hills park two nights ago I heard coyotes howling and yipping close by, as well as the resident owl hooting overhead.

I am REALLY jealous. I grew up with a pair of Pileated’s behind our house as a kid. They are wonderful and really shy. An honor to seen them. What a glorious day!

Apparently not the wild ones. I thought their fur changed to white in winter, but that’s weasels.

Well it was a minky sort of dark brown. It was a fleeting glimpse. Is there any other color?
