I believed he did because when a fan caught a foul ball he would say something like, “And a man from Dearborn takes that one home.”

A few years ago we went to the World Tournament of Historic Baseball at Greenfield Village, and Ernie was on hand to call a few innings of a game, which was a real treat. At one point, when a fan caught a fly ball, one of the players yelled, “Hey, Ernie, where’s that guy from?”
