A few questions from perhaps overly close reading:

* if “communications” are slated for a $15,000 decrease to a total of only 200,000, isn’t it sort of bad news that the category was $25,000 over budget for April? one or two more overages like that and boom, there’s no way you’re hitting the budget.

* it’s disappointing that there appears to have been no further discussion of providing even modest merit raises. As I noted in a comment on an earlier post, creating a 1% pool would only cost $58,000. There is an additional $50K slated for utilities in this budget. I suspect most staff and patrons would be willing to trade off one degree of comfort for a one percent raise for all staff.

* Also, how can it be that the utility estimate was so far off the first time around? that’s something where I would expect it to be correct the first time, since it’s one of the few truly untouchable expenses.

* Not crazy about the guy from Campbell showing up to lobby. Don’t think the board should encourage that as a pracice, it can only mean more headaches in future.

* Way to crack down on those Northfield Township double-dippers. ;-)

Good job as usual, thanks to everyone for their service (and Chronicle for its coverage!)
