OSV wine is truly the best thing to come from Michigan since the Wolverines’ National Championship in Football in 1997 – Dannielle and David, cheers to many more years of exquisite wine making!

We’re truly excited to have Joel publish this editorial.

We also noted that a few of you inquired on how you can get some of this vino, so we thought we’d give you first hand news that OSV’s website’s e-commerce area went live just a few hours ago. That said, hop on http://www.oldshorevineyards.com and order away.

Cheers and we hope that whatever the occasion, our wines will be joining your table.

Or even “southern Michigan” and northern Michigan” styles.

In the meantime, it’s fair to say that this sample from Old Shore lies somewhere between Alsace and Oregon, with a nod toward the greater focus of the former (and quite unlike most Italian Pinot Grigio).

Mike, I would call the Pinot Gris price-competitive — though not a raging value — at $18. Though reading between the lines of my conversation with the Makis, it’s fairly clear they’d like to be in a position to push prices upward once their reputation is established.

I too was fortunate to have had tasted the Pinot Gris. Crisp and bright and full, interesting and luscious varietal character. Although, this “exclusivity” (scarcity) puts the price beyond a decent competiveness with many similar imports at almost half the cost. I am a huge MICHIGAN Wine supporter — always have been. EXCELLENT articles like this need to somehow also get into the mainstream press (Wine Spectator, QRW, and the like). Cheers!

It will be interesting to see, having name-dropped both Oregon and Alsace, whose style of Pinot Gris they aspire to most. I show my personal bias when I say I hope they follow the lead of great Michigan Riesling growers, and appreciate the more European climate qualities found here. Old Shore Pinot Gris and Choucroute Alsacienne. Oh the possibilities.

OK, so where can we get some? :)
