    This isn’t as bad as the last time I saw it down. The sign was ripped clean off the island and lying in the road 10 yards further down the street.

    The earlier sign-flattening was indeed spectacular and stands as a rebuke to the timid half-measures of this most recent sign crash. (Happily, that last pedestrian refuge drive-over doesn’t live on only in our hearts — you can still see the trail of transmission fluid from that one heading off northwest from the island.)

    I remember that! (What Spencer described). I was actually crossing my bike at the time and was reminded that I should get my butt back in my car where at least I’d have a fighting chance should someone smash into me.
