The mailbox outside the Kroger on S. Industrial has vanished! It was there Christmas Eve. USPS cost-cutting or a Big-Boyesque prank? Probably the former – pickup time at mailbox on Packard near E. Stadium has been changed from 2 p.m. to noon, according to a new-looking sticker.

Your guess is probably right. When the USPS removed the blue collection box near my house, they said that it was a cost-saving measure, and they encouraged us to put outgoing mail in our household mailbox.
Bummer. Lost the one off Packard in the now-defunct Kroger-et-al. shopping center when that closed. Will they go the way of the phone booth?
Makes me think of my council campaign when I passed a guy walking the opposite direction on Brooks. Presently he caught up with me going the other way and asked in a polite German accent, “Pardon, where is the mailbox for this street?”
