At the DDA board meeting today, these “fringe” areas were described as a part of the parking demand management strategy already in place. Meters there are priced at $0.70 per hour and you can park for 10 hours (as opposed to 2 hours elsewhere). It was acknowledged that publicizing the reduced price and extended hours for these “park and walk” meters should be a part of the DDA’s communications effort.
DDA board member Russ Collins noted that these meters reminded him of Geoff Larcom’s joke that Eastern Michigan University doesn’t have a parking problem, it has a walking problem.
