Of these, I think the linden is clearly the sexier of the trees. Indeed, I will go so far as to say the linden tree is probably the sexiest tree of all … especially if you ask a writer of medieval German courtly romance poetry. Take these lines from Walther von der Vogelweide, which I’ll translate loosely this way: “Under the linden upon the moor/ that’s where you’ll see, it was our bed/ to tell the spot it was for sure/ look where our sleep smashed flowers dead.” I just dare you, try that with a pear tree.
