The general construction manager on the project is Bill Kinley’s Phoenix Contractors, which is a long-time Ypsilanti (local) company. So the picketing is likely over the selection of specific subcontractors for things like electrical work.
Dave- Thanks for writing your thoughts on what’s most likely going on- you’re good.
The picketers are representing the Masonry Union. All of the subs that Phoenix has contracted (electrical, plumbers & pipe fitters, carpentry, etc.) are union except for the masons. After a good-faith effort to use a union mason contractor we ended up having to go with a non-union contractor. B & P is the company hired to do our masonry an experienced company from Brighton MI.
The picketers have a right to express their protest, and are being very respectful of our staff and our customers while they are picketing.
Anyone who has questions about the situation can contact me at Zingerman’s Deli.
