    I’m thinking that this will only increase the number of people who wind up at The Chronicle’s website who are looking for information on “how to hold a trombone.” [Weirdly, there's a lot.]

    Isn’t it the III V I Orchestra, rather than the II V I Orchestra?

    II V I is correct; a well-known jazz chord progression.

    II V I is the classic jazz cadence, where the root moves downward by a fifth twice to get to the tonic. The band is named after it.
