In past years, the editors have gone out of their way to endorse the opponents of Marcia Higgins, including the GOP’s Jim Hood, Jr. in 2005, independent Hatim Elhady in 2009 and Tea Party Republican Eric Scheie in 2011.

Jack Eaton’s primary election opponent in the City Council race in 2012, Margie Teall, received The Daily’s endorsement that year.

It’ll be a surprise if Jack Eaton does not receive an endosement this year as the paper has already interviewed Jack and other ward candidates regarding the August race and noted that Marcia did not answer phone messages; this was cited in a July 17, 2013 article.
