The cascading blue lights of the Dreiseitl fountain inspired these lines (ok, not really, but just roll with this, it’s the holiday season) as a poetic preview to tomorrow’s city council meeting – the last one of 2013:

‘Twas the night before council, the wee morning hours,
Not a creature was stirring, not even Steve Powers,

The agenda was posted on the website with care,
    In hopes that the council next day would be there;

Voters from Ward 2 lay snug in their beds,
While visions of Jane Lumm danced in their heads,

Most of Ward 5, in a snow drift was stuck,
So Anglin drove out, to see what-the-chuck,

Warpehoski drove eastward through cold, frosty air,
Stopped at a crosswalk – for Sabra Briere,

Was standing there waiting, did not want to dally,
She strived to be prompt – like Petersen, Sally,

When Margie showed up, the words did not fail her,
She wanted to know: Where’s Christopher Taylor?

He arrived soon after, asked: “This where we’re meetin?”
“Heck yeah,” was the answer from Ward 4′s Jack Eaton.

Sumi and Kunselman arrived just in time,
It’s a good thing they did, we’re all out of rhyme.

John ended the meeting, and turned out the light,
“Mayor days all be merry, and to all a good night.”

I’d like to see the council preview in verse more than once a year. Thanks Dave.
