In this column, local architect Chuck Bultman explores preservation as it relates to barns. Barns are part of the built environment, and Ann Arborites are familiar with preservation of built structures in local historic districts. Ann Arborites are also familiar with preservation as it relates to open space outside the city, in the form of green belt millage expenditures. Barns are built structures, but generally sit in the middle of vast open space. Bultman looks at the specific preservation issues that relate to barns.
