This morning, Jayne and I discussed this opportunity and I asked her to help me understand what else is currently on the plate of Community Services. Her response is below. Certainly, we are quite willing to meet with the folks from the Germantown neighborhood and provide what ever information we can to help them in their decision making. However, the current work load in Jayne's area is such that I must ask that our involvement with the Germantown folks be delayed until early summer so that we may give adequate attention to the matters already underway. We will look forward to working with Mike and Carston to arrange a meeting time in June. We are in the middle of finalizing the budget, which is our primary focus between now and the end of May. In addition, staff is working on bringing forward the A2D2 downtown plan and zoning amendments to Council during March, April and May. As you know the A2D2 zoning changes have been a major effort that staff has been working on for the past 4 years. Finally, as directed by Council, we will be bringing forward a public engagement process on the Area, Height and Placement recommendations that we proposed to Council in the fall of 2008. They send their plastics to NPR Recycling in Romulus, MI, who informed me that although they do not know the exact where abouts of where all of their polystyrene ends up, they do know it ALL stays domestic. Since being informed of this information I feel it would be a good idea to have the city look further into this company first, instead of the other two I had found before, being that it is much closer and we can be assured that all of the material stays domestically. After the city can confirm that this would be an acceptable company to contract with, we can then begin research on how much we use and the exact tonnage we produce to figure out the economics side of things. Here is the contact and company information of both Recy-clean and the company they ship it to next NPR Recycling. Can we/do we enforce sidewalk slabs outisde public schools and bus stops? The sidewalk squares along Ridge Road at the bus stop area for the school children of Pattengill were never repaired. One very large section, in particular, was and is crumbling rapidly. Hundreds of school kids walk on it each day. Ironically, all the sidewalks and the main entrance of the school were replaced and/or repaired fully on the parking lot side of the school last summer. I received email replies for raising my concern, but there is clearly no action plan and/or collaboration and cooperation between this 2 government groups. Safety, not neighborhood cosmetics must be a primary concern.
