Also attached is a PDF containing the resolution Council adopted in 2009 regarding these efforts. The signed original of this letter will be sent to you tomorrow. We look forward to your consideration. Roger Fraser ===== March 8, 2010 Robert Marans, PhD, Chair Robert Tetens, Director Washtenaw County Parks Commission Parks & Recreation Administration 2230 Platt Ann Arbor, MI 48104 Dear Sirs: We are writing to communicate our gratitude and encouragement for your consideration of joining in a unique partnership for the development and operation of a new recreation facility for our City and County citizens. As you know, the City of Ann Arbor has been working with an enthusiastic group of citizens who are interested in developing a skatepark. The Ann Arbor Skatepark Action Committee (AASAC) has begun serious work on raising funds for the capital needed to develop this park asset. The AASAC is coordinating with the Ann Arbor Community Foundation, which is handling the Ann Arbor Skatepark Fund. In January, 2009, the Ann Arbor City Council passed Resolution #08-1029 agreeing to the development and operation of a skatepark facility at Veteran’s Memorial Park provided that funding for the maintenance and operation of the skate park is arranged. The resolution also approved a detailed memorandum of intent which spells out the expectations of the City and AASAC regarding the skate park. Those documents are enclosed for your information. We have recently learned that the Washtenaw County Parks Commission may consider an investment in this proposed skate park, as it would serve the interests and needs of a population well beyond the boundaries of the City. We, the undersigned members of the Ann Arbor City Council and Ann Arbor Parks Advisory Commission, wish to express our earnest support for your consideration of such an investment. Additionally we are committed to working to identify further opportunities for the City to leverage capital or in-kind resources to further the realization of a skate park facility. Again, we thank you for your consideration, and look forward to any opportunity to work collaboratively to strengthen an important and underserved recreational offering in our County.
