It will be installed November 2009, weather permitting. Otto Freitag will be on hand to consult with the siting of the structure. Always nice to have the park users get involved.

Olson Park could use some more volunteer involvement. If you are interested, contact the Adopt-a-Park program at 734.794.6627.

The first park was Hanover Square at Packard and Division and I think parts of West Park date back to 1905.

The tree trimmed in Virginia Park was a London Plane tree, not a sycamore. They are sometimes confused with each other.

A slight correction about “Coefficient of Conservatism” (not a very illuminating term I admit): These are numbers from 0-10 assigned to plant species, not locations.

Essentially the C.o.C. tries to quantify how finicky a plant is about site conditions. A “generalist” species that will survive in varying locations earns a low C.o.C.; and its presence at a site carries less weight in setting conservation priorities.

A plant with a high C.o.C. (such as fringed gentian, a 10) is found exclusively in specific site conditions (in that case, probably a fen site–such as the Washtenaw County Park Lyndon North). Those plants are generally under more threat and get higher preservation priority.
