We didn’t lose CBC. CBC lost the rights to broadcast these Winter Olympics. At least, I still have CBC where I am, west of Ann Arbor.

I can’t believe we lost cbc either. I grew up with channel 9 — it was as much a part of the detroit tv landscape as 2, 4, and 7 (and 50 and 20, too.)

We can’t get CTV here (maybe with a powerful antenna you can get something out of Windsor, good luck) but it wouldn’t matter anyway, it wouldn’t be much better than NBC, except that maybe there would be slightly more live coverage (but just barely). They would cover the hockey live, at least, but they’re a commercial network, just like NBC. Nothing beats CBC. Unbelievable they lost it. They should have been allowed to keep the rights as a public service or something, with the Games being held in Canada.

I loved the Olympics when I was a kid, but somehow the relentless middlebrow nationalist blare of TV coverage has ruined it for me. Everything has to be Inspiring! Moving! A powerful story of perseverance in the face of overwhelming obstacles! In a poignant moment, [athlete] remembers her grandpa! I just want to see people run and jump and dive and ski–stop selling me a narrative.

I heard this on WUOM this morning. Such a bummer to hear that the CBC won’t be carrying it! That’s always been one of my favorite free perks of living in southeast Michigan. Does anyone know if we can pick up CTV here, whether by broadcast or Comcast?
