The county employee who is charged with embezzlement worked in the community mental health unit, and Wes Prater’s proposal was for a general review. There was no concern raised about the financial controls in place at the sheriff’s department.

Sheriff Clayton is a breath of fresh air and I am hopeful there will be measurable improvements in each category he outlined.

In addition, I think that having “financial controls” is something entirely new for this department. Given that, I hope we give Sheriff Clayton some time to get this done so that these controls are consistent with the other goals he has AND corrected for the unintended consequences.
