One reason asserted for not pursuing a “one bridge” plan for replacing only the State Street bridge is that the rail bridge rating of 58 could suddenly fall below 50, which is when replacement is required. Sandi Smith said that the State Street bridge was rated 21 of 100 only three years ago and had fallen dramatically since.

No one mentioned when the rating for the bridge over State Street first fell below 50. That is when the bridge should have been replaced, not when the score reached 21 or 2. How many years has the City known that the bridge was rated below 50 and should be replaced?

The three options available today are completely inadequate. The Ferry Field route lacks good connections on either end, the golf course tunnel requires trespassing on railroad property, and the Stadium bridges are way too dangerous on a bike.
