This is where I wish the Chronicle was a bit more reactive to traditional news, e.g. the latest, LGBTgate. This is really a plea for the Chronicle to bring its more through, measured approach promptly to bear on issues that are causing controversy.

The name is a design as much as a concoction, cosmonıcan is the preferred style, but I’m not pretentious about it, just a silly name. Shift + Option + B (on a Mac) = ı

Regarding Fred #17: I post less because I’m running for Village Idiot and would not want to be seen as trolling for votes.

Odd, because there’s no shortage of controversy in Ann Arbor this summer.

Items great and small will eventually find their way to interested eyes however sooner or later that time may come. For some weeks now Ann Arbor historian Wystan Stevens has been transcribing the Ann Arbor Courier from the 1800s. Do I need to know these goings-on of Friday, August 17, 1877?

“JUDGING from present indications, there will be little or no cabbage worth speaking of this fall, owing to the fearful havoc made by worms. Scarcely a head of it can be found but contains from a dozen to twenty of these pestiferous creepers.

LAST week, Leonard Clark, a brother of Martin Clark, of this city, hung himself at his home in Clinton county. Cause — supposed temporary insanity. He was doubtless deranged in consequence of a blow he received on his head by a crazy man some thirty years ago.

WE are informed, by Mr. J. T. Jacobs, that seventeen thousand dollars have been subscribed already in aid of the Toledo and Ann Arbor Railroad, and if the farmers, who are as much, if not more, interested than our citizens in seeing this road completed, will now come forward and give a helping hand to this enterprise, the amount required will soon be raised and everything secured for the running of trains.”

I don’t have the need myself, but I’m happy to peruse them and I know that someone, sometime will want them. Just like someone, sometime in the future will care to be able to date the installation of the recent bike parking hoops throughout downtown.

You should, if anything, be overly cognizant of “transparency” or the lack thereof. Do you give to NAMBLA or some other such organization? As voters, we deserve to know what you’re up to.

I give to the Chronicle anonymously, because it would look silly to have “cosmonıcan” among the official list of subscribers; and because I prefer to be left alone, people who know me know who I am, and any organizations mining that list for names to hit on for handouts isn’t going to find me. That is on my to-do list, to write a check July 1st.

I’m just an ordinary schmuck, and the same rules do not apply to me as they do for you, our fearless leaders. So be anonymous if you must; after all, if you give money to A2.Com or any other news distributor, they won’t tell anyone, though you can bet the subscriber list is for sale for top dollar.

As I stated in my initial comment, “By anonymous, I mean primarily to [the Chronicle], but also to readers.” I’ll clarify further by saying that I meant that I would appreciate, for my own use, the option to make a contribution that’s anonymous to the Chronicle, now and in the future. Whether others used it wouldn’t matter to me.

I checked PayPal, and it appears that it wouldn’t be possible to suppress payor information. When in doubt, google: “sending cash in the mail” resulted in a list of other reasonable options. I’m all set.

Thanks for the offer though, Rod. :-)

Sorry to keep beating this drum. I went to the subscription page. Here’s what it says:

“We’d like readers to “buy” the Chronicle’s style of journalism by voluntarily subscribing.

•Tax Implications: Subscriptions are not tax deductible.
•Limit: $250 per calendar year per person.
•Disclosure: Subscriber’s name plus the month and year of the subscription will be published here on this page, *unless a note is included with the donation reflecting a preference against that*.”

So, anonymity is allowed!
