He clearly was a great person and man. I, as many who will read your article, wish I had met him sometime in his 99 years. What a wonderful source of knowledge, history and mentoring.

When I was running for City Council I had a fund-raising meeting at Glacier that Art attended and listened quietly to my ideas. About 15 minutes into our salon I noticed Art sound asleep on the couch! I did not know his background but after the salon I gently helped him off the couch and he went his separate way. I had no idea I was in the presence of a great man.

I knew Art professionally from the early 1960s through his retirement and echo what you say. He was a fundamentally decent man … honorable, gracious, armed with a gentle wit., and I remember him fondly.
