Were there any details on William Harris’ case? I didn’t see a synopsis of the claims against him here or on a cursory search of AnnArbor.com.

I would suggest to Slyvia Nesmith if she wants to encourage more Black parents to join the Black Parent Student Support Group and support it’s effort, try being more supportive and open to input from those you may not like or whose background may be different from yours. I have found that the BPSSG does not communicate well with the community and is very closed in who it involves in its activities. If parents feel their input is genuinely accepted and valued, the participation may increase.

Marian Faupel argued the landmark Baby Jessica case before the Michigan Supreme Court and prevailed over the DeBoers. The case generated national media attention.

I agree with her assessment. A teacher is in an authority position and a student often feels powerless to object or refuse unwanted touchings from such a teacher. The conduct at issue and similar conduct could spawn sex harassment lawsuits under Title IX, the Federal Civil Rights Act of 1871, plus the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, whether unfounded or not.
