I was terrorized by drug addicts, prostitutes et al and Avalon did not do anything about it. Why are they reducing the number of apartments? Just because there is a demand for family sized places doesn’t mean anything. Why are they discrimating against single people and single apts?

There are so many homeless suffering in the cold. Many are mental illness and veteran. We need to be very careful when using taxpayers’ money. In North main Affording Housing, it cost over $330,000 for one apartment. It’s obvious that taxpayers’ money was not well spent. We can’t allow contractor to bid the land at the soaring high price, then later “Avalon Housing” paid the highest price with our money. So many bones are freezing to death out there. Mentally ill homeless Louis & Kimberley are still hiding in the parking lot and ask for help.
“Avalon Housing” is going to demolish 1500 Pauline rather than “rehabilitate” it as requested. The reasons are drainage problem, accessibility issue…..recommendations from Michigan State Housing Development Authority??? Please check online the recent auditor’s report of this government agent, “didn’t give funding preference to low-income housing projects which benefit the poor” “didn’t exercise the rule against conflicts of interests” “Kept paying rent for tenants dead for year”…..so next time, please don’t quote this agent’s recommendations to demolish housing which can still be used. We need taxpayer’s money to build housing to save our vulnerable members.
Government should be held responsible for the public housing. If the job passed to non-profit, we can’t blame their operations. They need to hire staff, pay salaries and benefits.
Now, “Avalon Housing” collects money from different channels and the contractor will kick back 10-15% of developer’s fee from the whole project. The point is many people are unhoused. we use big money but lose 15 units???? Another issue is “Have we restricted the competitive bid process to a few companies??” and “How can we curb the practice of bidding at unreasonably high price for the project from the contractor, then get the taxpayers to pay for that?
