@ Marvin, My impression of the “.com readership” as demonstrated by the quality of their commentary vs. those on the Chronicle, is analogous to comparing a Yugo to a vehicle of high quality (brand deliberately left blank so as not to provoke any negative reaction as to its selection!)

Since my first ride into town in 1978 from Metro airport, off the US 23 exit and past Arbor Land Mall and the “strip” on Washtenaw, I’ve always been struck at how ugly the major approaches into town are: North Main, South State, Washtenaw Ave., Jackson Ave., etc… These eyesores do little to create a favorable first impression of our wonderful community. I was pleased to see the Lansky Junkyard go away courtesy of The NEW Center and all the effort by Ron and Eileen Weiser and their friends, and now, I’m glad that attention is finally being paid to another one of our major gateways. Unfortunately, these efforts take time to fully implement. I can only hope that I live long enough to see the result!

This seems like a fantastic idea. Doing long-range planning in a down economy so we are ready when/if it picks back up is the right way to do it.

Over at the .com there is enless whining and pouting about this. There’s a forest out there folks. if you stop focusing on the trees, you just might see it.
