You scooped the snews buy a day or so. They posted an article about this today (5:58 this morning). Maybe they just read about it here and went out to ‘investigate”.

Seventh Street between Madison and Pauline has some really bad spots opening up. The approaches to the Stadium bridges are getting close to being impassable. The City should pulverize the asphalt in preparation for the bridge project and then it just needs periodic grading.

I saw the ‘garden’ while I was in the neighborhood on Thursday.

That was just I received this from Homayoon Pirooz, Project Manager Manager on May 4th, in response to my most recent request for an update (he received it from Liz Rolla, senior project manager):

“Spring St will be one of the first items we address and we plan to begin work during the week of May 23, weather permitting. We will notify the neighborhood via a flier to be sent next week. We will also offer to be on site one evening during the week of May 16 should people want to come out and discuss the repair. I will copy you and Councilmember Briere once this is scheduled.

The current plan is to undercut the failed area and replace with a full road base cross section. Underlying drainage pipes (edge drain) will be added to reduce future saturation of the area. The horizontal extent of the repair is yet to be determined. We will have a preliminary layout next week, which may be adjusted once we begin to open up the road. We will most likely repair the pavement that is broken adjacent to the failure area. We were not planning to resurface the entire length of Spring St at this time as the condition does not seem to warrant it, but we can take another look at the condition next week also.”

Hope this helps get the word out,

Sabra

The city offers contact information to report specific street areas in poor condition: [link]. The city’s annual street resurfacing program for 2011 does not appear to include Spring Street: [link].
