We were assured that busing was available and the traffic studies were done contingent on busing (those roundabouts). Now we might be looking at large traffic problems, increased fossil fuel emissions (cost and pollution), and a reliance on cars to get students to and from school.

I’m curious: exactly which charter schools run buses? I will admit that we considered Honey Creek (based at the WISD building), and one major drawback was the fact that we would have to provide transportation. Same with Ann Arbor Learning Community. The only charter high school I know of that serves Ann Arbor students is Washtenaw Technical Middle College at WCC – they certainly aren’t busing kids. Neither does New Tech in Ypsi (it doesn’t bus non-Ypsi kids), although I don’t know what the plans are for the new school that will be offering an IB degree.

And if someone can afford a private school, they’re probably already the kind of person who drives their kid to school instead of making them suffer on a stinky smell bus (to quote Junie B Jones).
