[Ed. note: This is a longer version of the original item.] Today after leaving University of Michigan Radiation Oncology for my terminally-ill mother’s radiation appointment, my mom wanted a cherry dipped vanilla cone from Dairy Queen. All day we try to get her to eat … it seems like a full time job to get her to eat. It was 9:30 a.m. this morning so of course they were not open … not until 11 a.m.

There were two girls inside setting up for the day. I knocked on the window and they came to talk to me, and I explained to them about my mom. They started up the ice cream machine and said to give them 15 minutes and they would have her an ice cream cone.

That ice cream cone made my mom’s day! She has talked about how good it was all day and said she wants to go back tomorrow after radiation for another. This story needs to be told because there are not to many people in this world that would stop what they are doing to make someone’s day like they did my mom’s. I just wanted to thank them and show to them what a differance they made in someone’s day, who may or may not have many left. Pay it forward! Thank you.
