Schwas are not at all obscure. Both my kids learned about them in elementary school. Google it if you doubt me. When I start seeing “morphophonemics,” “suppletion,” “extraposition,” or “acrolect” in the popular media, I’ll sit up and take notice. (Yes, I am a linguist.)
