It seems that over the last 6 months or so, they have become much more frequent, especially in the early morning hours.

At times, it sounds as though the train just parks and honks for endless minutes.

Likely headed for a rail fan event in Durand or Owasso. Hearing the whistle and the sound of the steam engine never fails to give a thrill.
