He said he is Officer Rougeaux (not absolutely sure of the spelling but in that ballpark), and we welcomed him to the downtown area, whether patrolling on bike (good exercise and it can go places where the car cannot) or in his official vehicle.

I chatted with this officer – I can’t recall his name. I had been surprised to see an AAPD officer on bike patrol, and was curious about whether there were now regular bike patrols downtown. He told me that it’s an option for officers to patrol by bike, depending on circumstances (how many other officers are on duty, etc.) and each officer’s preference. So he isn’t assigned to do it, but said he prefers to patrol on bike when he can. He also had a vehicle that was parked at the Maynard Street AAPD substation, to use if needed.

Apparently, this police officer is now assigned to patrol the downtown area by bike.
