It is my (limited) understanding that there are a lot of different types of cranes. Some may be able to do what you describe. Some have counterweights on the ground, some up in the air. I would guess that the ones with counterweights in the air would require a second crane to place them. I’ve been learning a little about using cranes as my sweetheart is writing some chapters for a technical manual on crane use. The details are extensive, I’m especially intrigued by the types of loads and different ways to lift safely using different materials for holding the load. Just making sure the load doesn’t shift is pretty cool. A lot goes into making this equipment safe.
We sure are getting a lot of chances to see different cranes in use.
