Real environmental gains are not being advocated just spending more taxpayer money and expanding the reach of government activity to benefit a few NIMBYists and special interests.

An issue for the AATA is whether or not to label the “Boycott Israel” a “political campaign”.

A caveat to the AATA – Judge Thomas McPhee in Olympia, Washington is considering imposing a requested $260,000.00 in attorney fees for work furnished in successfully defending the Olympia Food Coop in a lawsuit after its board of directors voted to boycott Israeli-manufactured goods; a judgment of $160,000.00 in damages have already been awarded the against the plaintiffs in that action.

The ACLU case on Coleman’s behalf already has been successful in obtaining preliminary injunctive relief – and that could already be enough for Judge Goldsmith to award legal fees to the ACLU under the Federal Civil Rights Act and the attorney fee provision at 42 USC 1988.

Mr. Coleman has garnered national attention from this legal action – maybe it would have been easier, cheaper and less obtrusive to accept his $1,700 and run the ad.

The legal fees for the AATA are likely well in to tens of thousands of dollars at this juncture.

Do we need to start Arbor Update again so they can have somewhere else to go? I realize Chuck is a grown ass man who can stand up for himself but I find their style to lean towards bullying (a term that has been bandied about too much but I think applies here). What exactly is Chuck (or City Council in general) supposed to do here?
