Until the establishment of the Chronicle, coverage of county government was mostly limited to WEMU, which is necessarily limited because of radio format. The occasional news stories were mostly about controversial issues or election politics.

I particularly enjoyed your explanation of the parking arrangements between Ann Arbor, the DDA, and the county. I was trying to recall some of that history and – there it was!

I also appreciate the coverage of the issues surrounding the 4-year budget. I am dubious about this. In reference to a quotation of Commissioner Peterson, I’d amend that to say that no county commissioner can promise anything will or will not be included in a future budget. The BOC is re-elected every two years, and apart from contracts, is not obligated to follow the lead of a previous BOC on any matter. Thus, at least every two years, a possibility of major changes exists. Cmr. Peterson also raised very pertinent issues regarding the county’s pension obligations. I was glad that the BOC sidestepped that horrendous bond proposal, but the problem still remains.
