A fun place to work.

When I was at Bach School, the camera factory was still there. Later the U bought the building and kept their amphibians in the basement. After that they sold it to Joe who gutted and rehabbed the building. He did a very nice job, and I miss my old office. He leased it back to the U, which still occupies part of the building. Originally it was a furniture maker, then a radio manufacturer.

The building across the street, Argus II, is much newer. It had been the Argus optical shop. In 1973 the UM TV Center moved in. I worked there as a student and ran a lot cable and put on a lot connectors during that move.

The building to the west is owned by the University, and is known as “Argus Building II”. [link]

The Washtenaw County and City of Ann Arbor GIS website [warning: Silverlight] show Argus belonging to University of Michigan. The building across the way is owned by C-3 Partners (Bill Martin) [screenshot]

It also helps people with physical disabilities. When i was in a wheelchair after an accident, I couldn’t go anywhere in the winter. I’d get off the bus and have to wheel down the center of a street. Especially at intersections like the one at Huron Parkway and Washtenaw. Very dangerous.

Every year I email community standards long lists of violators. Most days that it snows. Tonight that list would have been whole blocks. Plenty of time next week.

Call the city’s Community Standards Unit at 794-6942. I used to work in this building and had to call the city a couple of times to get sidewalks cleared.
