Suswhit in #2: I did recently read a statement that (a) frost is deeper, and (b) the freeze/thaw cycles have been harder on pipes this year. (The latter made me wonder what thaws they were talking about, then remembered the rain earlier this month). That was moving the pipes around more, leading to breaks. Not sure where I read it (might have been here or print a2 journal; was in relation to last week’s sewage leak).

Have there been more water main breaks this year or does it just seem like it? Deferred maintenance?

The city has issued this alert: “Crews are working to repair a water main break on Pontiac Trail. The inbound lane is currently closed at Brookside with a detour available through the neighborhood. Please avoid the area if possible.”
