State & N. University

Early this morning an AATA-labeled Ford SUV jumped the curb and hit the Michigan Book & Supply store at State and North University. Miraculously the truck appears to have gone between the metal store entrance column and the light pole, and took out three glass windows (including a curved one at the front door). The Ford was hauled away around 7:45 a.m.

Downtown Ann Arbor

Huron & State

North Quad construction: The barriers on the side next to Huron are coming down. The plaza on the corner of State & Huron is nearly complete and prep work has begun for laying sidewalk. Still no sign of the northbound lanes on State freeing up, though.

Division btw. William and Liberty

Civil engineering graffiti all along the east sidewalk of Division, between William and Liberty, indicates that the sidewalk is coming up soon. Signs at the north and south ends say the sidewalk is closed, but dozens of pedestrians use it anyway.

Huron & State

The Jersey barriers have finally been moved next to North Quad so both lanes eastbound on Huron are now open. However, northbound State Street is still closed.

Hollywood Neighborhood

Across from Abbot school, at the intersection of Sequoia Boulevard and Center Avenue, an old upright piano sits in the rain in the street. A sign saying “Free” flaps in the wind.

State & Huron

State Street between Huron and Washington is closed while a small crane takes down the big tower crane for the North Quad project. The horizontal leg is down, and just the tower is left currently.

The southern half of the old Shaman Drum storefront has been painted white and has a “coming soon” sign for Pitaya, a women’s clothing store (see www.pitaya.com). It’s unclear what is happening with the northern half of the store.
