Commenting briefly on the resolution before voting, councilmember Sabra Briere said that she was happy to vote for the temporary closing of Monroe Street. This was likely an allusion to a proposal that the University of Michigan will likely bring before the city’s planning commission in the next few months, which would permanently close Monroe Street on a section adjacent to the fair’s location.
