Evening wildlife report: One muskrat, four ducks, countless goldfish, one great blue heron, and another not-definitely-identified water bird: a juvenile green heron? Brown with white spots or streaks on its back. Long neck and pointed bill, but not as long or sharp as that of the great blue.

Besides the usual mallards (adults and ducklings) on and around the pond, tonight a killdeer patrolled the edges. While I was trying to identify it, a heron swooped down from above the oak trees and began stalking, catching, and swallowing goldfish.

Brownish, healthy-looking canine. Obviously not a big dog, but a rather large coyote.
