Perhaps the sign is supposed to go on the median but the crew found it too dangerous to try to get it there? [link]

I thought that too, and figured it would obscure pedestrians trying to cross.

If we weren’t cutting police positions, maybe the city could build a mini-station on the island and have it staffed 24/7 to protect all the Old West Side street crossers.

You’re implying drivers won’t see it before the intersection. Why not? It’s pretty big.

Also, the sign clock says that after the first amazing string of sign-kills, the sign on the island has been up for 14 weeks!

I had to stand in on the other side of the yellow line to get a picture of the sign. Southbound drivers won’t see it until they are in or through the intersection.

Here’s the url of the webcam page that watches the sign in the crosswalk, and counts the time since it was last knocked down: [link]

Today it’s simply flashing, “LOCAL LAW” over and over again.

It must be fun living in that house with the monster sign flashing all day and night on your front lawn too.
