County Seeks Applicants for District 7 Vacancy
The Washtenaw County board of commissioners is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the board following the recent resignation of Kristin Judge, who represents District 7 in Pittsfield Township. Her resignation takes effect Oct. 9. Applicants for this appointment must live in District 7 [.pdf of District 7 map].
The deadline to apply is Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 5 p.m. The board is expected to make an appointment at its Oct. 19 meeting. Applicants must submit: (1) a letter of interest and resume, including a home address; (2) identification of political affiliation; (3) a current list of past political leadership/involvement; and (4) a statement of 500 words or less, responding to the board’s Strategic Priorities and Budget Principles. Candidates are expected to attend two public meetings: (1) at the Pittsfield Township Hall (6201 W. Michigan Ave.) on Monday, Oct. 17 starting at 5:30 p.m.; and (2) at the county board meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 6:45 p.m. Candidates will be interviewed at these meetings, with an appointment made on the 19th.
The board must make an appointment within 30 days of a resignation, for a commissioner to serve until special elections are held. There will be a Feb. 28, 2012 primary for that seat, followed by a May 2012 special general election. The winner of that election would serve a truncated term for the current District 7, through 2012. Redistricting of the county board that takes effect in 2013 will reduce the number of districts in the county from 11 to 9 – candidates for the new districts will compete in an Aug. 7 primary and November general election.
The position is compensated with a $15,500 annual salary and a $3,550 annual flex account to cover expenses related to the job.
