There is something of a story behind the delay – I saw an excerpt of a plea the owners made to keep part of the building so as to avoid having to conform to the new AHP zoning requirements (in building a new one). It’ll be interesting now to see when/if anything is proposed for the site or whether this demolition was finally forced by the city.

According to Ralph Welton, city of Ann Arbor’s chief building official, the demolition was done by the owner – which is the way the process ideally works, from the city’s point of view. The building board of appeals ruled on the property last year: [link] The city can undertake the demolition, if the owner doesn’t comply.
