Mary, I don’t mean to belittle your observation but there hasn’t been a caboose on a train for over 25 years. The federal requirement was dropped sometime in the ’80′s.(Federal Railroad Safety Act (“FRSA”), Pub.L. No. 91-458, 84 Stat. 971 (1970), codified at 45 U.S.C. Secs. 421-445 (1982)
Re. the missing caboose: Yes, 25+ years and I still miss it!
I miss it too (and still sort of forget it won’t be there and look in vain for it every time I see the train go by); however, sometimes I do see two engines! :)
