“Safety Team” apparently blocks parking spots for a living @ Ann & Main lot? Also “we don’t tell people why we’re here”

I circled around to the lot to check it out, but the people in bright vests that were acting as the “safety team,” by blocking off parking spaces, had by then disappeared. A walk-through of the Green Fair turned up nothing.

The original situation was: We (and dozens of other people) looking for parking yesterday evening at 6pm, and seeing an empty spot in the Ann & Main surface lot, encountered two middle-aged men in bright yellow safety vests labeled “SAFETY TEAM” blocking the last parking spot. They said, “This spot’s reserved for the Safety Team” whenever anybody asked.

After finding parking space elsewhere, I asked them if they would tell me who they were so I could pass it along. They asked if I was with a newspaper, and I hesitated and said, “Not exactly”. They said “We don’t speak to the Press.” I said I’m not the Press I just wanted to know what Safety Team was, and they said again “We don’t speak to the Press.”

In hindsight the whole thing reminded me of scenes from heist movies. Maybe I should have reported them to the Police? They were next to an unmarked minivan with random-looking boxes in it. For all I know, they were prepping for a Redwings party.
