    Not a great example, with the tree close to one side. All of them would have the curb close on the other side, of course, as this one also does. I wonder how any of them will function in the space where parkers would typically go from street to sidewalk and vice versa. Will the bike(s) block that opening?

    Honestly, I highly recommend bikers not use these posts for locking. You can nearly pull some of them out of the ground as it is:

    I obviously missed something. Is the City/DDA going to try charge people to park their bikes downtown? You have to be kidding.

    No, bike parking is staying free. These posts are the numbers which tell you your car’s parking spot ID number so you can get a parking receipt from the new parking robots from the future. Some of these number posts now include a bike ring for easier locking, though whether that’s even remotely safe is up for debate (see my movie above).
