UM: Game Camp
The Detroit News reports on a one-week computer design camp in Ann Arbor run by iD Tech. The camp, sponsored by the University of Michigan, is open for ages 7-17, though 3-D design classes – which includes games that tend to be undeniably more violent – are restricted to those 13 and older. Finn Haverkamp, lead instructor of the camp, emphasizes writing as the first step to the game design process. Micki Woodford, the camp director, similarly stressed the connection, saying, “Every camper has to submit a storyline in writing before we start making characters.” The last session, which begins next Sunday, still has openings.
