Michigan Theater

Standing in the lobby of Michigan Theater, Russ Collins demonstrates why he doesn’t need a bullhorn, repeatedly bellowing “Best seats are in the balcony!” as crowds flow in for the Penny Stamps lecture by Temple Grandin. The place is packed – even in the balcony.

Arrived at the Michigan Theater a few minutes late so I had a close-up opportunity to hear Russ tell everyone that there was no more room in the house–not even standing room (although a few art students did manage to squeeze in after showing their ID’s). Sorry I missed the presentation but glad that so many people got to enjoy it!

Not nearly as many people attended an arguably far more valuable and broadly relevant talk by Nicole Foss (aka Stoneleigh) at the Dana Building today about the unavoidable financial depression we’re entering. Fortunately, much the same talk (audio only, without the slides) is available on the Local Future web site: [link].

Steve, comparisons are odious but I agree that the Foss talk was valuable. She segued so neatly from peak oil to economic collapse and connected all the dots. It was great that the Transition group brought her here. (The confusing aka refers to the screen name for Miss Foss’ blog, The Automatic Earth.)
