Once, walking in Foxfire, I saw a car pull out of a house in one cul-de-sac, drive around a half block and pull into a house in another cul-de-sac, precisely behind the first house, drop off a couple of kids, and drive back. It’s a crazy thing.
Something about Hummers that arouses the hostility reflex. How would the duckling story have gone if he’d been driving a Honda Civic? (Glad they aren’t being made anymore, if I am correct.)
I have mixed feelings about the Hummer. I noticed this odd behavior partly because they stand out. And I do wonder about who would buy a car with such horrible mileage. It is an odd car inside as well. But my secret is that I was actually one of the sub-contractors on the team that put together the original Hummer. My brother had a contract for computer work on the database and I did some of the work on-site. I even still have my commemorative glass mug they gave to all the team members (I’ve tried to sell it on e-bay without any luck). I’ve never been part of the creation of a vehicle before, or since. This was a weird one to work on. So I do notice them and have this total love/hate relationship with them. And my feelings of smugness have only increased since I started driving a smart car. This stopped watched report was observed while on bicycle. Even better.
