Basement of Ann Arbor District Library is filled with about 100 people where we’ve been shepherded due to the tornado warning. Unclear what the status of the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority board meeting will be, scheduled to convene 15 minutes from now. Will likely just wait it out and start meeting when the warning is lifted.

AADL staff just announced to the group of us down here that the tornado warning has been extended to 7:15 p.m and that it’s raining cats and dogs outside. Heavy concentration of smart phones and laptops down here, so for many this wasn’t news, but for many people it was a welcome update.

AATA board still wouldn’t have a quorum as best I can see. Only Roger Kerson, Jesse Bernstein and Eli Cooper are here. They’d need a fourth. John Rosevear, of the medical marijuana licensing board is also here with his granddaughter, but he of course doesn’t count towards the AATA board quorum.

Young woman insists I take chair. I decline. She won’t sit there either. We both sit on the floor. Slowly dawns on me that she probably perceives me as elderly or something.

We’re losing some people as they hear reports that the rain is starting to abate and decide to leave library. AATA board still lacks quorum.

Charles Griffith was here a little earlier. So quorum is now achieved. We’ve now been released out of the basement.

I don’t think that elderly folks often ride a bicycle through a hailstorm to a meeting. Get used to deference from the young. I think it is rather sweet. I say this as someone who still gives up her chair, but I’m careful to whom I make that offer.
