Surface parking lot is closed for a special event – likely for the grand opening party for the Library Lane underground parking structure, which starts at 5 p.m.

A grand opening party planned for 5 o’clock, the peak of rush hour? This is typical of the DDA’s “planning”. It is difficult to effectively plan for a community when you think of nothing but yourself.

Re #1: Huh. We went downtown specifically for this event. We got to wander through the various cars and chat with friends and neighbors (and people I didn’t know). Clearly others found time to get to the event, as it was pretty crowded. There was even free parking in the structure.

5 pm on a Thursday meant that those coming from work could get there (it lasted past 7) and those wanting a night out could come early.

Sorry it left a bad taste in your mind. (Of course, I didn’t plan this event, so I could just enjoy the preview of the Rolling Sculpture Car Show. Which I hope you’ll find time to attend, although it starts at 2 pm on Friday, July 13 — when you are no doubt at work — and lasts right through rush minutes.)

Besides, this way it doesn’t interfere with the “Imagine a Park” block party on Saturday.

I thank you both for your feedback and I’d like to especially thank Ms. Briere for her work on the City Council and her efforts to think through and discuss the issues and not participate in Heiftje’s pre-scripted rubber stamp meetings. However I still think that planning a Grand Opening celebration at 5 o’clock rush hour on a major thoroughfare is terribly inconsiderate of all who use that thoroughfare and such inconsideration typifies the DDA.

You’re still reaching, Johnboy. The speed ramp makes this the least traffic-obstructive structure in town, special event or not, and yesterday’s event will have been the lowest level of rush hour use the structure will see for many years.

Well, It not only looks like the DDA got the hour of the “grand opening” wrong the also got the day wrong. Just more lies from Hieftje and co.
